Politico interviews former officials who faced recalls

Unsurprisingly, all the officials appear to be against recalls. The piece is really more for color, but it fails to properly convey the reasons behind two of the recalls. The California Assemblyman Paul Horcher was elected as a Republican, but voted for the Democrat for Speaker -- this was not just a minor switch, it effectively gave the Democrats the majority, and the Speakership. Voters would not have elected him if they knew that was his intention from the beginning (I think party switchers should resign their seat and rerun for the position -- it is a first order political change). Petak switched his vote on the sales tax bill to pay for the new stadium for the Brewers. You can argue that it was simply a good policy/gutsy decision, but that switch has to be explained to put this recall in context.
